For decades, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have been applying technology to make driving more efficient and safer. With improvements in computer vision, deployments of LiDAR, and the pervasiveness of artificial intelligence, near-miss detection is increasingly being promoted as the way to bring safety to all roadway users, including Vulnerable Roadway Users.

Join us on June 25, when the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Arizona Section (AZITE) brings together a several presentations on the state-of-the-art of Near Miss Detection and Analytics.

Please head to the elevators. Through the doors, walk forward and you will see the elevators on your left. Head to the 11th floor. The ACEC space is on the south side.

Parking is available west of the building in the parking garage or surface lot.

Benjamin Griffard, Street Simplified

Benjamin has spent the past six years at Street Simplified, contributing to over 1,000 safety studies across 28 states. His work leverages AI and computer vision to uncover detailed patterns in driver, pedestrian, and cyclist behavior, providing deeper, behavior-based insights beyond traditional crash data. Through this analysis, Street Simplified has helped agencies proactively identify risk, prioritize improvements, and secure millions of dollars in grant funding to advance safer roadway systems.

Ben will introduce near-miss analyses, focusing on Street Simplified’s ongoing partnership with the City of Tempe.  Ben will discuss near-miss success stories and anticipate where this technology is headed.

Chris Cassani, Miovision

Chris Cassani lives in Oro Valley with his wife and five children, and he has worked with Miovision for 5 years where he has overseen Miovision's operations in Arizona and the Southwest. Prior to joining Miovision, Chris served as the Director of Transportation in Quincy, MA, a suburb of Boston. Chris developed a passion for solving complex transportation problems with a heavy emphasis on improving safety for all road users.

Miovision's continuous safety analytics system augments the company's holistic approach to providing intersection analytics. Using sophisticated computer vision and artificial intelligence, end users can see and track near misses, extrapolate the long-term impacts these events may cause, and interpolate the external causes of a near-miss to offer demonstrable safety improvements at an intersection.

Amber Masse-Rowe, Ouster

Amber Masse-Rowe is a seasoned leader with 20 years of experience working with transportation agencies and technology companies in ITS. As a Director on the ITS team at Ouster, she oversees the strategic growth and support of Ouster BlueCity on the West Coast. Amber is an expert at translating complex, cutting-edge solutions into high-value business outcomes, helping global organizations transition from legacy systems to modern traffic infrastructure. Prior to Ouster, she held key leadership roles at companies such as Swarco and NoTraffic

Cameras have limited depth of perception and field of view constraints.  Ouster’s BlueCity 3D LiDAR offers significant advancement in addressing the limitations of conventional near-miss detection system, providing real-time, on-demand traffic data to maximize efficiency and improve safety.
