Have you ever wondered how transit research can shape the way people travel and improve mobility options across our communities? What insights can help agencies better understand travel behavior and make transit, walking, and bicycling more effective and appealing?

Professor Kari Watkins is a leading expert in transit whose work focuses on expanding mobility options by improving transit systems and supporting multimodal travel. Her research spans a wide range of efforts, from understanding the factors that influence individual travel choices and patterns, to partnering with transportation agencies to translate research into real-world applications and innovations.

She is especially well known for developing the award-winning OneBusAway program, which helped transform how riders access real-time transit information and paved the way for next-bus countdown tools used widely today. In addition to her transit work, she has explored bicyclist behavior and infrastructure preferences using survey research, crowdsourced data, and instrumented bicycles.

This presentation will provide an overview of how research can support better transportation decision making, highlight key findings from Dr. Watkins’ work, and share practical insights that can help agencies improve mobility, accessibility, and the overall user experience across multiple modes.

There will be 1.5 PDH credits available for those who attend. Details on how to obtain the PDH credits will follow the meeting.
