Motor vehicle crashes rank at the top causes of fatalities across multiple demographic groups.  And, most of us know that the majority of fatalities are caused by human behavior.  It would be so easy to say, "those people need to do better".  However, we know that there are solutions to building a system that reduces fatalities.  We can each in our capacity as transportation professionals, play a role in reducing traffic fatalities.  During this presentation we'll walk through what each of us can do to choose our role in attaint the audacious, yet achievable, goal of ending traffic fatalities.  

Amy Whitfield, Special Director Target Zero, New Mexico Department of Transportation

Amy Whitfield has dedicated her career to impacting complex public health issues.  She has served New Mexico for more than 20 years working in small non-profits, academic institutions, and state government, serving numerous fields including:  anti-violence, substance abuse treatment, leadership mentoring, community organizing, housing and others.  Amy joined state government under the Governor Lujan Grisham administration and has worked in various state agencies building and implementing initiatives to meet administration priorities.  She recently joined the New Mexico Department of Transportation to lead statewide initiatives of beautification and Target Zero, the initiative to reduce traffic fatalities throughout the state.
