Description: To many people, ITS is the high-tech traffic management center, video wall, and computer servers on the rack.  What gets overlooked are the massive field communication and network of computerized equipment that control the traffic signals to insure the safe and efficient operation of our traffic network.  Starting from the lone signal cabinet on the corner, this technical session demonstrates a wealth of field ITS technologies deployed in Peoria, one of the most progressive cities in the Valley of the Sun.

The focus of this session will cover the components of a traffic signal cabinet, how ITS interfaces with the cabinet and field devices, and the future of ITS in Peoria.

Speaker: Sean Kau, ITS Technician

Sean is considered one of the experts in the valley for traffic signals and ITS.  Sean will share his 30 years of experience and knowledge on the complexities of a signal cabinet, and how communication via fiber or radio is now a critical part of the evolution of traffic signal technology.  Sean is originally from Hawaii.  He has worked for the City of Peoria for almost 20 years.
