Jacobs has an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional with municipal traffic engineering and traffic operations, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), experience. As an experienced City Traffic Engineer you’ll lead a team of traffic engineers and technicians in the delivery of traffic engineering services (TES), traffic signal operations, and traffic management center operations at the City of Centennial (City) project. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, directing the operations of the TES Division, serving as the City liaison with multiple outside agencies and transportation committees, and attending community meetings to represent the City in the discussion of transportation projects, issues and concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and performs TES functions
  • Formulates and updates division policies, procedures and standards for department operations
  • Independently, and in coordination with the City, as applicable, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods and maintains an awareness of new issues, methods, equipment, trends and advances in the profession, including adaptive traffic signal systems and operation of a Traffic Management Center (TMC) and associated ITS devices and fiber optic communications
  • Communicates with supervisor, contractors, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information or resolve problems
  • Directs the survey and analysis of traffic conditions, traffic accidents, school traffic safety, and neighborhood traffic issues and recommends innovative solutions
  • Oversees and conducts, as needed, traffic engineering review of development applications and traffic studies
  • Directs the operation of the City’s adaptive traffic signal system, including developing and implementing timing plans for individual signals, signal coordination plans for corridors, and preventative maintenance programs for traffic signals, school beacons, and associated equipment and devices
  • Directs the management of TES capital projects, including, but not limited to, traffic signal, fiber optic communication, and ITS construction projects
  • Develops, recommends and monitors the division’s budget, by reviewing past expenditures, determining future needs and assessing resources required to accomplish division goals; reviews purchase requisitions and invoices and authorizes approval based upon the City’s goals and budgetary guidelines
  • Identifies grant opportunities and manages applications including analyzing current and future traffic needs in order to determine the improvements necessary and to ensure the safety of the public
  • Receives and responds to traffic and transportation concerns and issues; determines and recommends appropriate resolutions to maintain positive community/customer relations
  • Conducts neighborhood meetings to identify and understand traffic and transportation issues and propose effective solutions
  • Participates in meetings with other City departments, City Council, outside agencies, commissions, and citizen groups to provide information on traffic engineering standards and guidelines
  • Follows safety procedures, reports unsafe activities and conditions, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned
