Dear Mountain District Members,
Last month, the Mountain District Executive Committee gathered in Flagstaff for our annual Fall Leadership Retreat. This retreat is an important opportunity for District leadership to plan for the year ahead, review and strengthen our initiatives including connection with and among Sections and discuss how we can continue to deliver value to our members. We attended the Arizona Section Monthly Luncheon, traveled to Flagstaff and toured the High Country Conference Center, host site for our 2026 Annual Meeting, and spent time with NAU students who represent the next generation of transportation professionals.
The retreat was productive and energizing. We reviewed progress on our Strategic Plan, planned the 2026 budget, discussed committee chair and liaison assignments, and finalized our District Culture Statement, a defining reflection of who we are as a professional community. You’ll see that statement published soon, and I encourage all members to read it when it’s shared. We also advanced our rebranding initiative and will be presenting a new Mountain District logo to the Board for approval in the coming months. In parallel, Sections are encouraged to explore updates to their own branding to align with this refreshed ITE branding and to get involved in those efforts.
This edition of The Summit highlights that same spirit of engagement, with features on student and young member involvement across the District. You’ll read about our 2025 Student Award winners, the Arizona Section’s initiatives to encourage younger member participation, and the continued growth of the Mountain District Mentorship Program, all essential components of sustaining the future of our profession.
As we look toward 2026, I’m grateful for the dedication of our District leaders and volunteers who make these programs and opportunities possible. Together, we’re building a connected, inclusive, and forward-looking community that embodies what it means to be part of ITE in the Mountain District.
Best Regards,
Chris Sobie, PE, PTOE, PMP
President, ITE Mountain District
