ITE Mountain District and Friends,

From June 4–6, 2025, transportation professionals from across the region gathered in vibrant Santa Fe, New Mexico, for the ITE Mountain District Annual Meeting. With a record turnout and a full slate of technical sessions, workshops, and networking events, this year’s conference delivered fresh insights, innovative solutions, and invaluable opportunities for connection. From thought-provoking keynote speakers to in-depth discussions on emerging mobility trends, the meeting was a testament to the strength and forward-thinking spirit of our professional community. In addition to conference activities, attendees savored the spicy cuisine of New Mexico and enjoyed an enchanting evening at Meow Wolf.

Some highlights from Santa Fe include:

  • Kicking off the annual meeting week with a Student Leadership Summit, with 41 students in attendance
  • Hosting the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Traffic Signal Systems (ACP25) Annual Meeting, with 33 professionals in attendance
  • Our second (annual) First-Timer social, coordinated by the DEI Committee
  • Continuing our traditional Mountain District Annual Cornhole Tournament complete with Mariachi musical entertainment
  • Over 55 technical sessions with 64 presenters
  • Keynote addresses from Alan Webber, Mayor of Santa Fe, and  Jerry Valdez, NMDOT Executive Director
  • Plenary session presentations by Karen Aspelin, ITE International President (and Colorado/Wyoming Section Member), Dr. Jonathan Upchurch, ASCE
  • Distinguished Member, and Dr. Nick Ferenchak, Director of the Center for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety
  • The first-ever Mountain District Bedrock Award honoring Michael Sanderson
  • Family Night at Meow Wolf, where attendees explored the immersive experience and danced the night away (until they kicked us out)
  • Technical tour of the Guadalupe Complete Streets Project
  • Bicycle tour of the Santa Fe River Trail
  • Celebrating the accomplishments and honors of outstanding members from across the District during our Annual Awards Luncheon.

These unforgettable moments and highlights were made possible by the exceptional dedication of the Local Arrangements Committee (LAC). This year’s LAC—13 committed volunteers from the New Mexico Section—generously contributed their time, energy, and expertise to ensure the success of the meeting. We extend our heartfelt thanks for their outstanding work and tireless support!

We hope you thoroughly enjoyed your time in Santa Fe—soaked in the sunshine, experienced the vibrant culture, explored the historic streets, and perhaps discovered a new favorite chile dish. From the rich artistic heritage to the breathtaking desert landscapes, Santa Fe offered a truly unique backdrop for this year’s ITE Mountain District Annual Meeting. We’re already looking forward to gathering again next year—mark your calendars and stay tuned for what’s ahead in 2026!
