Hello Mountain District Members!
Change is in the air for some portions of the Mountain District, with cooler fall temperatures coming soon, at least that’s what most of us are hoping for after a brutal recording-setting summer, especially those in the desert southwest! In this season of change, it’s important to remember that while it can often be disruptive, change is also inevitable and should be welcomed, as it often provides new opportunities for growth and improvement. In the five years since the Mountain District was founded on January 1, 2020, we’ve experienced many changes, both planned and unplanned. Some of these changes have been large and impactful, with the impacts still affecting us today, while others have been smaller in scale and part of the normal course of an organization’s development and growth. In the Mountain District, some of these have involved changes in leadership roles, both through the regular rotation of the elected positions on the Executive Committee, as well as at the Committee Chair level. Each change has given us the chance to benefit from an infusion of new ideas, new perspectives and new insights that have been beneficial to keeping our leadership motivated and engaged. You’ll be hearing about some of these initiatives and new ideas over the coming months and I encourage you to get involved and embrace these opportunities for change as we continue to move the Mountain District forward and be an organization you are proud to be a part of and willing to contribute your time and energy towards its future.
The Executive Committee will be holding its Fall Leadership Retreat in New Mexico this year, November 7-8, starting with attendance at the New Mexico Section’s monthly meeting in Albuquerque, where we’ll have the opportunity to engage with Section leaders and membership. We’ll then head up to Santa Fe for a business meeting where, among other tasks, we’ll be reviewing our goals and objectives for the coming year and finalizing the 2025 budget to ensure we are on a sustainable financial path. We’ll also be touring the venue for next year’s District Annual Meeting, which will be June 4-6, 2025. The LAC has been hard at work putting together a great program with plenty of informative technical sessions along with family-friendly activities, so if you haven’t already, I encourage you to take a look at the details already available online and block out the dates on your calendar for what is sure to be another excellent Mountain District Annual Meeting.
David Lucas
2024 ITE Mountain District President
