The ITE International Board of Direction (IBOD) held a 1 ½ day meeting coincident with the Missouri Valley District annual meeting. The IBOD meeting took place on April 19-20 at the Cottonwood Hotel in Omaha, NE.
The Board took several important actions:
- Approval of an updated ITE Code of Conduct – that includes updated language reflecting our goal of “fostering a welcoming environment by acting with consideration, integrity, respect, and a collaborative spirit towards others.” The IBOD also adopted a second Code of Conduct, this one was new and focuses specifically on Meetings and Events.
- Participated in a workshop focused on Brand Evolution, exploring the “what and why” behind our current naming conventions, brand identities, and general descriptions for our various Districts, Sections, Chapters, Student Chapters, Councils, Committees, and Products.
- The IBOD approved updated charters for the four Sections in Florida (reflecting updated boundaries) and approved the charter for a revitalized Southwest Florida Chapter.
- A student chapter charter was approved for the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (Northeastern District)
Significant updates included:
- The Nominating Committee was approved for 2024, who later this year will review candidate submissions for International Vice President and determine a slate for the election in 2025.
- The Mid-Colonial District held a webinar with several Council leaders, to help spread the word about some of the great planning and engineering activities going on in our International Councils and Committees. Other Districts are encouraged to do the same.
- The Board received a briefing on the 2023 finances that are now undergoing their annual audit, and an update on financial performance (so far) for 2024.
- Past President Rosana Correa led a discussion on building a leadership pipeline for the future, considering both the International officers as well as leadership in our Districts and Sections.
- The IBOD also received updates on Student and Younger Member activities planned for this year, as well as a briefing on the action plan coincident with the recent release of the updated MUTCD. More than a dozen webinars will be held this year, along with a new professional development course and an indexed print copy available for purchase.
- Districts swapped several great ideas regarding service projects, including Southern District’s “technical” projects for municipalities, and the Mountain District’s “build-a-bike” program.
- The Trip Generation Manual (12th Edition) will be released in mid-2025, which means data collection efforts are about to get underway.
Upcoming Annual Meetings:
- July 21-24, 2024 – Philadelphia, PA (Mid-Colonial District)
- Aug 10-13, 2025 – Orlando, FL (Florida Puerto Rico District)
- July 19-22, 2026 – Detroit, MI (Great Lakes District)
