The Mountain District ITE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee has started its first annual State of DEI in the Mountain District survey. The survey will be open every year from April 1 to May 15. The survey can be accessed by clicking here! Below you'll find some information about the background and purpose of this survey.
Backstory
ITE believes that differences in background and experience enrich the culture and experiences of ITE for our membership as they do for the communities in which we live and work. Because personal experience and identity shape how people see the world, greater inclusion will provide a more thoughtful, open, and integrated sharing of ideas and experiences across the entire global membership. It is to the benefit of all our members to seek a greater diversity of ideas and experiences that will help us to be in a position to tackle transportation's biggest challenges and to develop the preparedness and resilience that ITE will need to address future challenges that cannot be currently defined.
Actively encouraging participation from traditionally underrepresented groups to pursue careers in transportation and to become members as well as leaders within ITE is one means to bring a more diverse and inclusive membership into ITE.
Objective Of This Survey
Members of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Mountain District and its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee developed the survey questions to better understand the overall DEI landscape in the Mountain District. The ITE Mountain District is a diverse group of engineers located in Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah Sections. This is the first edition of the State of DEI for the ITE Mountain District.
DEI leaders, practitioners, and advocates who work in businesses, public organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions were invited to participate in the survey to improve our understanding of their DEI operations, rate of returns on DEI investments, and prospects and related matters for implementing and improving DEI principles and practices in their organizations and throughout the District.
The end goal of the survey is to identify the current trends and challenges in DEI and provide insight to support local policy development, collaboration opportunities, and implementation of DEI initiatives across the Mountain District as well as to inform other organizations that may benefit from the report’s findings and conclusions. We thank you in advance for taking this 4-minute- 10-question survey. If you want to be contacted in the future for follow-up, please send your contact information to [email protected].
