Mountain District Members,
We have a lot to celebrate here in the Mountain District, starting with the election of our very own Karen Aspelin P.E., PTOE (F) as 2025 ITE International President! Karen has a long history with ITE, at all levels, and we are fortunate that the Mountain District was part of her leadership journey, where she was instrumental in helping stand up ITE’s first new District in decades, serving as our first International Director, and then continuing on as International VP and soon, President. Congratulations Karen!
In this issue of The Summit, we’ll highlight initiatives from our new DEI Committee and our Service and Community Outreach Committee, and I strongly encourage you to consider joining one of our committees, lending your ideas and experience, becoming more involved and expanding your professional network. The Awards Committee has been hard at work processing the many great nominations we received and ensuring that the winners (to be announced in Big Sky) are submitted for consideration at the International level, representing the best the Mountain District has to offer. Later in The Summit, you’ll also find a list of the Mountain District members who earned certifications from the Transportation Professional Certification Board in 2023, recognizing their specialized knowledge and skills in a specific transportation field of endeavor.
Finally, our Mountain District Annual Meeting in Big Sky, Montana is less than three months away (June 19-21) and the excitement is palpable, as the LAC has been working hard to put on an excellent meeting. Already, exhibitor booths have nearly sold out, along with the majority of the sponsorship opportunities, so if you’re still thinking about being an exhibitor or sponsor, I encourage you to act now while you still can. Registration is also open, with new signups every day, and the final touches are being made to the technical program, so stay tuned for that. Please check the conference webpage for answers to all of your questions about the Big Sky meeting, as well as details on the various socials and events that will be available as you catchup with friends and colleagues in a beautiful resort setting.
If you’re looking for something to do while you wait for the Big Sky meeting, this year’s ITS America Conference and Expo will also be in the Mountain District, specifically in Phoenix, Arizona, April 22-25. The Valley of the Sun is looking forward to hosting this huge annual event of vendors and industry professionals and if you’re planning to attend, I encourage you to take advantage of the 15% registration discount (use code MDITE) available to all Mountain District Members.
I look forward to seeing you in Big Sky!
David E. Lucas
