The ITE International Board of Direction (IBOD) had its final meeting of the year on October 13-14, 2023, at the ITE Headquarters office in Washington, DC.

The Board took several important actions:

  • The IBOD approved the recommendation of the Nominating Committee to move forward with Gordon Meth (F) and Eric Rensel (F) as candidates for ITE Vice President in 2025.
  • The Board received a briefing on the year-to-date finances, a rough end-of-year estimate, and then approved a draft budget for 2024 that considers the new implementation actions from the Strategic Plan as well as an additional staff position (returning to having a full-time communications director). A final budget will be presented at the January IBOD meeting.
  • As part of a briefing on future Annual Meeting host locations, the IBOD approved a recommendation for the Great Lakes District to host 2026 and the Mountain District to host 2028 (a swap from their original plans).

Significant updates included:

  • 2023 was an exemplary year for membership, with the projection to exceed 18,000 members by the year’s end. We offered free memberships to 850 planners and still surpassed our budget.  Also new for 2024: members can join multiple Sections when renewing or joining.
  • Student membership is growing, and we have over  150 student chapters..
  • Rosana gave an update on the Young Member Engagement Sessions held during the year and provided Board members with several suggestions to take back to their Districts.
  • Incoming President John Davis discussed his points of emphasis for 2024, including implementation of the Strategic Plan and transition of the new ITE CEO
  • Councils, Committees, and ITE Staff continue to release technical publications and products at a record pace – to date we have released 22 products and conducted 41 webinars, with a few additional products and webinars still on the calendar for the remainder of this year.  The Parking Generation Manual (6th Edition) is scheduled to be released by the end of October.

Other important actions included:

  • Approval of a 3rd Vice Chair of the Council Leadership Team, focused on enhancing cross-cutting collaboration between the Data Committee and Equity Committee and our Technical Councils.
  • The IBOD approved three new student chapters at Dalhousie University (Canadian District), University of Texas, El Paso (Texas District), and Texas State University (Texas District).
