Mountain District Members and Friends,
I hope you all enjoyed the rest of your summer and are currently enjoying some nice fall weather. Fall is my favorite season, but it unfortunately doesn’t last very long in Montana. In fact, Big Sky Resort, our annual meeting location for next summer, received its first snowfall of the season last week. Hopefully we still have quite a bit of fall weather ahead, but that’s a sign that winter isn’t too far around the corner.
Earlier in September (before the snowfall) we held our annual Fall Leadership Retreat in Big Sky, Montana. This was the Executive Committee’s opportunity to visit Big Sky Resort, tour the conference facilities and hotels, and ask questions of the team at Big Sky Resort. We also had a nice get-together with the Montana Section Board and members of the Local Arrangements Committee. It was a great visit and I think it’s safe to say we are all very excited for the meeting next year. I’ve included several photos from our visit that will hopefully get others excited too!
While the Executive Committee was together for the Fall Leadership Retreat, we also discussed several business-related items. We reviewed a draft framework for our three-year Strategic Plan and outlined our schedule to have it ready for review by the end of 2023. We also reviewed our draft budget for 2024. In order to address increasing costs, we asked the Mountain District Board (the Executive Committee and Section Representatives) to consider a dues increase for 2024. This will be the first dues increase since the Mountain District was formed on January 1, 2020. The Board voted unanimously to increase dues from $30 to $35 for Members and from $15 to $17.50 for Retired Members (or 50% of Member dues). Dues for Life Members will remain at $0. Hopefully our membership understands why this is needed, to address the increasing cost of District activities and operations and to continue to build the successful programs and services that we are very proud of in the Mountain District.
If you haven’t already done so, please visit the annual meeting webpage to see what’s coming up for our time in Big Sky next summer. The Local Arrangements Committee is beginning to post information, with more to come very soon!
