Mountain District Members and Friends,
The ITE MD 2023 Annual Meeting Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) is excited to pre-welcome you to beautiful St. George in anticipation of the 2nd Annual Meeting on June 21-23, 2023. The LAC has been working hard to get everything prepared and ready for your arrival and to ensure a highly educational, entertaining, and enlightening conference. If you are still on the fence and haven’t yet registered, it is not too late to do so. There are still hotel rooms available as well as opportunities for sponsorship and vendor exhibit space. And if you need a little encouragement, consider the following:
Pre-Conference Activities
We have golf, mountain biking, and hiking activities lined up and ready for you on Wednesday morning before the conference. Please contact Emily Andrus ([email protected]) to RSVP by June 14th and with any questions.
Technical Program
We have a diverse and informational technical program assembled with over 40 different presentations from speakers representing all of our eight Mountain District states on topics ranging from safety, mobility, and performance to active transportation, connected vehicles, and funding. In addition, we have some quality keynote speakers that will be presenting on cool topics such as the history of Zion National Park, how St. George has become a world-championship venue for Ironman Triathlon events, and the future of transportation in Utah from the Utah Department of Transportation. Needless to say, opportunities abound for continuing education credits! You can find the most up-to-date version of the schedule of technical events on the conference website.
Family Night Activity
We have an amazing Family Night activity planned at the world-renowned Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheater for a professional theatrical rendition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Many actors take a leave of absence from Broadway to come and participate in Tuacahn productions every year. This will be a highly entertaining event in one of the most beautiful outdoor amphitheaters you will ever see nestled in the red rocks of Snow Canyon State Park.
Local Recreation
We have numerous outdoor recreation activities for your and your family’s enjoyment and exercise during your free time and before and after the conference. These include miles of paved walking and biking trails, several miles immediately adjacent to the conference venue and hotel. Not to mention many more opportunities in the adjacent Red Cliffs Reserve and National Conservation Area, Snow Canyon State Park, and of course the amazing Zion National Park, the first National Park established in Utah. You can also visit lakes to do some boating, swimming, or paddleboarding as well as do some exploring on ATVs or jeeps. Rental facilities are available if needed.
Vendors/Exhibitors
We have 24 vendors that have generously contributed to our conference and will have booths displaying the latest products, trends, and technologies in the transportation world. A Vendor Social, held on Wednesday night, will give attendees a chance to mingle and catch up as well as indulge in hors d'oeuvres, a cornhole tournament, a putting competition, a trivia competition, and, of course, an open cash bar! We would also like to thank our dozen sponsors who have helped make the meeting possible.
Student Activities
Several student and younger member activities are planned including a Student Meet-and-Greet, a technical tour to the St. George Traffic Operations Center, a personal interaction event with our ITE International President, Rosana Correa, and, of course, the annual student chapter Traffic Bowl.
As you can probably tell, we are super excited to see you! Please refer to the Annual Meeting website often for the latest information, events, and activities pertaining to the conference. If you have additional questions, please contact one of our LAC Chairs, Lee Cabell ([email protected]) or Kim Hazlewood ([email protected]).
See you in 21 days!!!!!!
