Traffic Signal Supervisor 

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Traffic Signal Supervisor position is responsible for supervising Traffic Signal Foremen, Electrotonic Systems Specialists, and other skilled employees involved in the construction, repair, installation, and Federal Highway Administration required maintenance of traffic signal control devices and related equipment, including street lighting both on signal poles and street light poles. The Traffic Signal Supervisor’s staff performs required preventive maintenance inspections on signalized intersections throughout the City of Phoenix, responds to traffic signal emergencies, performs annual safety inspections at intersections near schools, participates in signal system operational upgrades, repairs damaged signal equipment, maintains illuminated street name signs, and re-lamps luminaires as needed.

This position is also responsible for:

  • Implementing work schedules.
  • Developing shop policies.
  • Coordinating training.
  • Researching, and specifying of new traffic signal technologies.
  • Researching, and specifying of new vehicular and mechanical devices used in the construction and maintenance of traffic signals and streetlights.
  • Finalizing reports as needed for traffic engineering management.
  • Coordinating work to resolve public requests for traffic signal service.

This temporary position will be funded through June 30, 2023, with a possibility to be made regular in a future budget cycle. The temporary position will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city’s retirement program. If the successful candidate is a current City employee, all benefits will still be applicable and the employee will still contribute to their pension.  Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered “at-will” and employees may be separated at any time.

SALARY

$61,110.40 - $92,892.80 annually.  Candidates may be hired up to $92,892.80 depending upon qualifications.

Signing and Striping Shop Trades Helper

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Street Transportation Department is hiring for Sign Specialist II.  This position performs skilled tasks in the design and fabrication of signs. Duties include using specialized computers, scanners, software, plotters, silk screening equipment, engravers, and other processes to create standard or customized signs. Types of signs produced include traffic signs and other exterior signs, as well as interior building signs such as directional signs, ADA and life safety signs, banners, and name plates. Types of sign material include aluminum, vinyl, plastic, brass, glass, and wood, among others. Work involves interacting with customers or vendors to discuss needs and to advise on different methods, materials, wording, and size/placement of signs.  Incumbents often work independently and exercise discretion and judgment for such tasks as editing graphics, mixing paint or inks, designing signs, fabricating signs, installing signs, and maximizing the capabilities of the sign-making computers, software, and other equipment.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to provide high level customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of proper techniques when using tools, paints, inks, and thinners used in the manufacture of signs.

SALARY

$18.18 (minimum) - $24.96 (maximum) hourly / $37,814.40 - $51,916.80 annually.
