The salary shown in the job description is full range for this position from entry to later career.As a Traffic Engineer/Transportation Planning Engineer in the Traffic Engineering Division of the Development and Engineering Services Department, this position will work in every aspect of traffic engineering with a small, but dedicated team.
The primary duties of this position include:
- Internal and external customer service
- Development review
- Signing and striping review and design
- Traffic observations and studies
- Neighborhood Traffic Management Program
- Project management
- School traffic circulation and maps
- Use of CCTV cameras and basic Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations
This position is primarily office-based, working in Peoria’s TMC, though it does require occasional fieldwork and observations.

The ideal candidate for this position:
- Is a registered Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or highly skilled transportation technician or planner.
- Has extensive knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other federal traffic engineering guidelines, state statutes, and regional best practices in traffic engineering.
- Enjoys identifying safety and operational concerns, developing and implementing solutions, and monitoring after project implementation.
- Is a detailed-oriented problem solver.
- Is capable of working independently as well as a member of a team.
