PRESENTATION SUMMARY
In 2018, the Governor established the Institute of Automated Mobility (IAM) to foster collaboration between the public and private sector in all aspects of the safety, science and policy of Automated Vehicles. The IAM is advancing pioneering work on AV safety metrics, what data should be considered when evaluating the performance of these vehicles and how can you leverage infrastructure to increase situational awareness. This presentation will highlight the projects and initiatives underway in the IAM and how UArizona is playing a key role in helping the state make our roadway systems safer in the future.

Marisa Paula Walker focuses on the intersection of economic development, infrastructure and transportation innovation. Ms. Walker portfolio includes the Institute of Automated Mobility (IAM), a public-private consortium focused on the safety, science and policy for automated vehicle advancements in Arizona. Since 2018, the IAM has worked to address obstacles to AV commercialization, e.g., a safety metrics project that is pioneering a new framework for AV safety leveraging existing infrastructure, data capture techniques and experts in the fields of computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence, edge computing, and traffic engineering.
Ms. Walker began her professional career at the University of Arizona, where for more than a decade she held positions focused on Arizona-Mexico, NAFTA and international trade issues.
Ms. Walker also served as the Executive Director for the Arizona Governor’s CANAMEX Task Force where she managed projects in transportation, telecommunications, technology and process enhancements for cross border shipments.
