ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix is seeking to hire individuals to fill the position of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Specialist - Electronics Systems Specialist in the Traffic Signal Shop. This area is responsible for providing 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the technical evaluation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the citywide traffic signal system and electrical/electronic infrastructure that make up the entire Intelligent Transportation System.
Currently, the Street Transportation Department has vacancies in the Traffic Services Section.
This recruitment and any interview process as a result of this recruitment may be used by multiple hiring managers and multiple departments throughout the City to fill any related current or future vacancies; other recruitments and appropriate eligible lists may also be considered.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Working knowledge of traffic signal, communication and/or intelligent transportation systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite and SAP.
- Ability to use laptop computers to access the traffic signal system and databases.
- Ablility to work in a vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
- Ability to distinguish full range of colors working with LED’s and/or color-coded wires.
- Ability to safely work with voltages as high as 220 V AC & DC.
SALARY
$28.31 (minimum) - $34.99 (maximum) hourly / $58,885 - $72,779 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems;
Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
Requires working irregular hours, second or third shift, weekends, holidays and evenings.
Requires working in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
Working after-hours/weekend on-call rotation schedule may be required.
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Three years of experience as a traffic signal/ITS technician, ITS specialist, or electronics technician.
Previous experience with fiber optic or wireless radio communications testing, or installation.
Previous experience with electronic testing devices such as voltmeters, ohm-meters, or amp-meters.
Previous experience with a vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck.
IMSA Certification - Traffic Signal Level II.
Knowledge of NEMA standards.
