POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
|
|
We recognize your time is valuable, so please apply if you meet the following required qualifications. Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
Experience
- Six (6) years of traffic engineering experience including work experience in engineering project management
Other Requirements
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, OR by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six (6) months of employment
- Must possess a valid Arizona State Drivers License by the time of hire
Our Preferred Candidate has
- Experience with the practical application of the guidelines of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
- Experience with the application of the traffic engineering principles of the Policy of Geometric Design of Highways and Streets by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
- ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor, and Level III Signs & Markings certifications
- Experience with the application of traffic engineering principles as it relates to roadside design, low volume road design, pedestrian, and bicycle facilities

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
|
|

- Supervises assigned staff; prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; counsels, coaches, trains, evaluates, and instructs employees as required; coordinates a variety of administrative activities, including scheduling, payroll reporting, and report processing
- Reviews and evaluates accident reports, traffic counts, and traffic control plans for safety improvement projects
- Reviews traffic safety studies for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and appropriate recommendations; signs off on reports as approving official
- Plans, reviews, and coordinates staff and equipment requirements for special events as assigned; develops and approves special event traffic control plans
- Assures project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
- Represents the Traffic Studies Section in public meetings and at internal and external agency meetings to address technical issues; serves as a senior technical advisor on new traffic control devices
- Seals traffic design plans, signal warrants, and speed studies, and technical memos for traffic improvements
Working Conditions
Must be able to work in a normal indoor office environment. Some work duties will involve long periods of sitting, standing, walking, driving a vehicle, bending and kneeling, reaching and wearing protective gear indoors and outdoors. The weight required to lift, push, pull, or carry is 50 pounds. Dexterity of hands for computer work, desk work and driving motor vehicles. Must be able to work outdoors on occasion in extreme heat, cold, wind or rain on projects. Must be able to manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, team-oriented activities, prompt decision-making and interaction with government officials and the public. Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior and a professional demeanor.
