About the Position

The Arterial Mobility Analyst works with a state-of-the-art Traffic Management Center (TMC) to improve traffic flow. In this role, high importance is placed on promoting arterial mobility through advanced traffic management systems, including Traffic Signals, traffic incident management (TIM) processes, and traveler information sharing.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field

Experience 

  • One (1) year of experience in design, operations, the timing of traffic signals, or a related system 

OR 

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis. 

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Experience in transportation operations with capabilities to monitor several traffic management systems at one time
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Office
  • Experience and working knowledge of ITS, traffic signal timing principles and practices, and traffic management center operations
  • Experience and working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other transportation guidelines and practices such as ITE, NEMA, MAG Standard Details, OSHA, etc.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical information in the form of reports, spreadsheets, and graphs

 

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:

The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.

  • Works in a team environment and independently to reach defined objectives and goals
  • Monitors arterial traffic flows using ITS tools, disseminates traveler information using social media and Dynamic Message Signs, and documents and communicates information to the arterial incident management team
  • Monitors and troubleshoots multiple traffic management and ITS tools daily  
  • Monitors, analyzes, develops, adjusts, and evaluates traffic signal timing plans
  • Monitors and maintains the traffic signal central management system database
  • Conducts field observations in response to needs and executes solutions
  • Communicates with the public regarding traffic signal operational inquiries
  • Uses databases or spreadsheets to identify new and historical trends related to traffic patterns and events
  • Attends Special Event Coordination Meetings, Project Meetings, and other monthly meetings; reports pertinent information to team members

 
Working Conditions 
Must be able to work in a normal indoor office independently and in a team-oriented environment. Will drive to various traffic locations to investigate traffic issues. Will monitor ITS tools and systems daily from the TMC and report issues to team members. Some work duties will involve long periods of sitting and standing. Weight required to lift, push, pull, or carry 50 pounds. Dexterity of hands for computer work and desk work. Must be able to manage frequent interruptions, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, prompt decision-making, and interaction with government officials and the public. Must constantly maintain accuracy, efficiency, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor.

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
