2024 ITE Mountain District President Candidate - David Lucas

It is an honor to be a candidate for President of the ITE Mountain District.

It was just a few years ago that the Mountain District was established, in 2020, and during that time, I have had the pleasure of serving in a variety of District leadership roles, as Advertising Committee Chair and Arizona Section Representative (2020 & 2021), as Secretary/Treasurer (2022) and as Vice President (2023).  During this time, I have had the pleasure of working with many great leaders at the District, Section and Chapter levels that have helped us get where we are today, about to enter our fifth year as a vibrant and growing organization that exemplifies the best our profession has to offer and the recognition that service is an important and shared responsibility.

With our second in-person District Annual Meeting this year in St. George, Utah, we have established a standard of quality and a unique identity that sets us apart from our peers.  We continue to grow our membership and increase the number and type of leadership opportunities available to our members, allowing us to benefit greatly from the new ideas and wealth of experience they bring to our District.  We communicate with our members regularly, providing monthly and quarterly content to tie together our large geographic area, while providing numerous awards to recognize the excellent work being done at all levels of the organization.  With support from our sponsors and public/private agencies, as well as our members, we are financially stable, with growing revenues that provide new opportunities to increase our membership and support the personal and professional development of our students and young professionals, including the establishment of new committees and initiatives.  As your President, I would be honored to lead our Chapter, Section and District leadership to continue these efforts and expand the opportunities available to our Community of Transportation Professionals.

With nearly 30 years of experience in the Intelligent Transportation Systems field, in academia and both the public and private sectors, my broad experience has served me well as both a professional and a leader in ITE.  I am currently the Traffic Technology Branch Manager at the Maricopa County Department of Transportation; MCDOT recognizes the importance of professional organizations and is a strong supporter of my active involvement.  I would be honored to have your support as well.

2024 ITE Mountain District Vice-President Candidate – Chris Sobie

It is an honor to be nominated for Vice President of the ITE Mountain District. ITE has been my professional organization of choice since I was a student in 2015. I have had the pleasure of serving ITE at the student level, section level, and district level. ITE has continued to provide me with opportunities for growth including being the youngest member of the OneITE Mountain District Sub Task Force in 2019 which was a dedicated group of individuals that helped establish the foundation of the Mountain District.  I am excited for this opportunity to give back to an organization that has become an integral part of my career, provided countless career and personal opportunities, and become the foundation for the relationships I have within our profession.

I am currently serving as the ITE Mountain District Secretary-Treasurer. Previously, I served as the Student and Young Member Committee Chair and the ITE Colorado/Wyoming Section Continuing Education Committee Co-chair. I was also the Northern Arizona University Student Chapter Founder and President in 2015 and the Treasurer-Secretary, Vice President, and President of the New Mexico ITE Section from 2017 to 2019. I am also a proud graduate of LeadershipITE, class of 2020. I was awarded the ITE Western District 2015 Outstanding Student Award and the 2017 Best Paper by a Young Professional Award. I am very proud to have been nominated and awarded the 2022 ITE Mountain District Young Member Rising Star Award.

Through my role as the ITE Mountain District Student and Young Member Committee Chair, I worked hard to lead the creation and maintenance of our student and young member awards, activities, funding opportunities, traffic bowl, data collection projects, Student Leadership Summit, and the Mentor/Mentee program. I believe our future as an industry and an organization lies with our students and young members. I am always seeking to increase engagement and bridge the gap between our students/young members and our tenured professionals so that all of our ITE members continue to be the leaders in the transportation industry.

I am currently working for Q-free who enthusiastically supports and encourages my involvement in ITE so that I can continue to grow and learn in my career to better serve the traveling public.

I’m excited for this opportunity to serve as Vice President of the Mountain District and I would sincerely appreciate your support.

I am honored to be a candidate for Secretary-Treasurer of ITE Mountain District!

ITE has provided some awesome experiences during my career and has been my professional organization since I joined as a Student Member back in 2004. When I started my career in Las Vegas with Kimley-Horn, I remember Nevada Chapter lunches were a great way to meet others in our local transportation community, many of whom I still work with today.

After leaving the engineering industry for a few years, rejoining ITE and the Nevada Chapter was a top priority when I returned to Kimley-Horn in 2014. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to serve on the Nevada Chapter Board and as Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee for the 2015 Western District Meeting in Las Vegas. In 2019, I participated in the LeadershipITE program.

In my current role as Membership Committee Chair for the Mountain District, it has been awesome to witness our new district take off with great momentum and energy! I have been working with the District Board and other Committee Chairs to enhance the member experience and increase communications with members, and if elected, I am committed to improving engagement with student and younger members, while making new members feel welcome and valuing our long-time members. As a “young” district, I love that we get to establish our own identity and traditions, and with many miles between sections, I look forward to strengthening the connection and collaboration between our sections and establishing new chapters.

As a transportation engineer with a wide variety of safety, multimodal planning, complete streets and traffic analysis project experience, I rely on the numerous professional development opportunities and ITE Community for continuing education and information on the latest trends and practices in our industry. I am committed to our members’ experience and encouraging others to join ITE for access to these resources and amazing community.

I look forward to continuing to serve ITE Mountain District and would appreciate your vote for Secretary-Treasurer!

2024 ITE Mountain District Secretary-Treasurer Candidate – Josh Saak

I am proud and honored to be nominated for Secretary/Treasurer of the ITE Mountain District in 2024.  I have been a member of ITE (as my professional organization of choice) since I was a student at the University of Illinois in the late 1990s.

I have had the pleasure of serving ITE at the student, section, and district levels.  ITE has provided me with growth opportunities, including participating in the OneITE Mountain District Sub Task Force in 2019.  This group was a dedicated set of individuals that helped provide a framework for establishing the Mountain District in 2020.  This is an opportunity to return my skills to an organization that has come to be a key part of my career.  To me, the most impressive part of ITE has been how easy it is to talk to planners and engineers of all experience levels.  From fellow section members to International Presidents, there is a shared belief that everyone is in this together.  That willingness to share what we know and how to make our communities better are what keep me engaged.

I am currently serving as the chair of the Mountain District Annual Meetings Committee.  This group helps to establish best practices and advice for your annual meetings.  Previously, I was ITE Student Chapter President at the University of Illinois in 1998 and 2000.  I was also the Idaho Chapter (now Section) Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President, and President from 2017 to 2019.  I was also the Local Arrangement Chair (LAC) for the first solo Mountain District annual meeting held in Boise, Idaho, in 2022.

I am currently a traffic engineer with the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) in Boise, Idaho.  I am fortunate that ACHD provides support and encourages ITE involvement as a growth opportunity to further both my career and leadership skills.

Outside of work, I am an avid runner and cyclist, which helps professionally to see perspectives of all roadway users.  My wife, Kristen, and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in 2024, and we are proud parents of a fourth grader, Regan.

I’m appreciative of this opportunity to serve as Mountain District Secretary-Treasurer and would be thankful for your support.
